Coming up this week ...

Portal News

No Winter League bowling this week so we have to dip into our reserves to ensure we post at least one story a day. I am delighted to tell you that will include the first postings from our new member League as we launch the Liberal League pages on HuddWeb.

It is the time of year to look back at what has happened over the past 12 months - not a lot but then again lots that we will not recall with any affection. Our Review of 2020 will start online on New Year's Eve in the form of a blog record of how bowling survived and even thrived on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We also take a highly critical look at the proposed rule changes in the Veterans League and ask the question 'What are they trying to do by abolishing the Starred Bowlers ruling?' One interpretation being that they are sleepwalking into the demise of the League.

We are open for business every day next week including New Year's Eve and New Year's Day - what else is there to do? We are under house arrest so need some respite. So in the coming week you can expect to see postings covering ....

  • New Year's Eve Review of 2020

  • Our views on the proposed rule changes in the Veterans League

  • An update on the Junior League 'Match It' fundraising project

  • The climax of the December 'Name The Green' challenges on Tuesday and Thursday

  • The Winter League survey will be open for all-comers and then it will close mid-week with a full report of its findings to follow

  • An update on the Top 40 individual bowlers from the Winter League

  • As clubs start to make arrangements for the 2020 season and maybe have to select new team captains we ask the question What makes a good team captain?

  • The first postings of new HuddWeb league member when the Liberal League is added to our pages

  • ... and probably lots more news we are still to learn about.

The Top Four most viewed posts over the last week were:

The homepage photograph has changed today from the wonderful panoramic viewing of Broad Oak to the scenic views skirting the Meltham green. If you are viewing this site on a mobile phone or tablet you may not be able to see the homepage background photo.

If you like a posting on our homepage then a click on the red heart in the bottom right of that posting will push up the numbers. It is anonymous so don't worry that someone will deduct what you don't tick but it does help to get some positive feedback sometimes and helps us to provide more similar postings in the future.

Have you thought about becoming a HuddWeb Member? Membership numbers continue to increase and are within touching distance of 100 members. Being a Member allows you to add your comments to any of the homepage posts and you also get an optional email notification every time a new post is added to the homepage. Become a Member by providing your name and email address, that's all there is to it.

We will be pleased to add your club green photo to our collection and share with other members and maybe even put it on the Homepage. Old team photos are always of interest to our readers as well as photos of greens in days-gone-by. Then if you want to add the story of your year in 2020 then please feel free to do so. So please send us any information about your club, changes in buildings, people or teams and send us any updates and photos that you are happy to share.
