Clayton West cruising to Division 1 title

Veterans League

Preview of the Veterans 6-Man League Monday fixtures

Just five weeks to go in the 6-Man League Division 1 season and none of the teams in danger of relegation seem to be making inroads into their deficit of points. I can see little to signal a massive turnaround in fortunes for any of the teams in the bottom half of the table, which is the worst possible news for the two teams holding the two relegation places at present, Skel Windmill A and Thongsbridge A. Both teams have away fixtures this week against top five opponents and the form book indicates no surprise result is likely in either camp.

At the other end of the table the top three teams all travel to play teams in the bottom half of the table and again there are no danger signals bleating out from any of those. It looks to me as though all 12 teams are sleepwalking to a repeat of the current table in five weeks time. May as well set the Guard of Honour up for Clayton West already.

It is top v bottom as Brockholes A travel (but not far) to face Brockholes B in the Division 2 fixture programme. It is not as though the B team are likely to gift their clubmates some easy points to support their title and promotion charge, with their own hopes of avoiding relegation very much to the frontage of their thinking.

The teams in 2nd and 3rd positions, New Mill A and Holmfirth A go head-to-head, with New Mill having home advantage; they will be looking to extend their current 9-point lead over Monday's opponents. The bottom five teams all have home matches this week but I wouldn't put any money on any of them winning their fixtures this week.
