Winter League
The Huddersfield Winter League is now offering a one-off opportunity to try Winter League bowling over a 7-week mini-season running on Mondays from Monday 27 October to 8 December at Lindley Liberal Club. We already have four teams that want to play in this Mini-League but it is still open to the next four 4-person teams to contact the League. All the details are below.
INVITATION TO JOIN THE HUDDERSFIELD MINI-WINTER LEAGUE
Following an offer from Lindley Liberal Club to host a 7-week season for 8 new teams
starting on Monday 27 October 2025 the League is running a Division 10 mini-season
competition. That opening has already been offered to the 6 teams on our waiting list for the 2026-27 season and four of those teams have taken up that offer. They are Skel Windmill, Lindley Lib D, Outlane B and Brockholes D.
That leaves 4 places still to be taken to make the competition an 8-team Division 10 to be run over 7 Mondays before Christmas. Those teams can be totally new to the Winter League or clubs that are already members of the League which may want to try out a B, C or D team.
This is how an 8-team Division 10 will work:
The mini-season will run on 7 Mondays starting on 27 October 2025 and conclude on Monday 8 December and all matches will be played at Lindley Liberal Club.
Each 4-man team will play the other 7 teams once, with an 11.00am start time.
Any matches postponed because of bad weather or other reasons will not be rearranged.
The format of matches is the same as the established Winter League. That is two singles games and one pairs game. All matches are 21-up with 8 points at stake on matchday. Bowlsnet will be used to record all fixtures, results, tables and bowler averages.
The winner of the Division 10 mini-season may be promoted to Division 9 (or even higher) for the 2026-27 full Winter League season. The introduction of a new Division 10 for the following 2026-27 full season will be dependent on the availability of a new host green for that season.
The weekly costs will be the same as those paid by all teams in the full Winter League. That is £3 per bowler (£12 per team) per week which includes Green fees, tea and biscuits and a raffle ticket. Lindley Lib are not able to provide the full catering service at this time as expected in the full League.
The League will waive the normal annual membership fee of £15 per team.
Bowlers can be male or female and should have already celebrated their 60th birthday.
Any number of bowlers can be registered for each of the 8 new teams.
Bowlers who play in the mini-season will not be eligible to play for another team in the full Winter League before Christmas. BUT they will be eligible to play for any Winter League team after the Christmas break.
There is no obligation for any team in the new Division 10 to continue in the League for the 2026-27 season, although we hope that they will want to.
Bowlers who only play in the Division 10 competition will not be eligible to enter the Winter Cup or the Pairs KO competitions for the 2025-26 season.
This is a unique opportunity to test drive the Winter League experience for your team
members before committing to full membership (or not) for the 2026-27 full season. This is regarded as a one-off taster competition to whet the appetite for, and experience of, Winter League bowling.
Entries for membership of the 2025 Mini-League 8-team competition will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. Any points of clarification or to take up this offer please contact the League Secretary, Jeff Jacklin at jefftheref2000@yahoo.co.uk or on 07968 171 197.
This opportunity is only available to the first four new teams to take up the offer.
