Winter League

Preview of the Division 10 matches to be played at Skel Central on Monday

Skelmanthorpe Central is the first of three new host clubs to open their doors to Winter League bowlers with a full Division 10 fixture programme on Monday. A lot of work has gone into improving the surrounds to the green to make it 'Winter League friendly'. With the weather forecast as it is, that label may be fully tested.

There were few opportunities for either Holmfirth B or Almondbury BC C to celebrate team wins last season, the latter recording just one win whilst the Holmfirth outfit didn’t fare much better with just two successes to their name. In fact neither of these teams have won in the Winter League since 2025… one of these will (hopefully) get off to a winning start at the new Skelmanthorpe Central venue.

The hosts have two teams in the division and it is no surprise that both face opposition from the Brockholes club – they have three teams of their own in the division. Those representing Central have, in the main, bowled for Windmill last year so have experience of winter league bowling. Windmill’s A team finished third at this level last season two spots above opponents Brockholes D.

The second clash between these two clubs features Central’s B side facing Brockholes E. Again, last season’s form suggests that the hosts should prevail in this encounter

That leaves Brockholes C to face the challenge of Marsh Lib’s C in the final encounter on the opening day of the season. It may be a clash between two of the C teams in the competition but looking at the names of the registered bowlers in both camps suggests that there will be some close matches and that these two sides might be contenders at the top end of the table come the end of the season.
