Winter Cup video and scorecard

Winter Cup

Just to wrap matters up in reporting the Winter Cup Finals Day which saw Lindley BC 'B' bowler, Stephen Haigh, take the title when beating Adrian 'Crafty' Cooper in the final at Milnsbridge BC last Thursday. The scorecard alongside tells some of the story but we have a video record of the day compiled by Robert Tracey selecting elements from the day to put together a trailer of what the Winter Cup is all about.

The match itself revolved around the different tactics of the two bowlers. Crafty Cooper has played on the green all winter and his favourite mark has been playing a round peg along the edge furthest from the clubhouse. He had used this to good effect in his earlier win over Lorraine Hirst but couldn't get it working as well in the final. Stephen Haigh favoured a corner-to-corner approach which was a little dangerous as if losing an end he would present Crafty with his favourite starting point for his proven mark. It all came together for Stephen in the latter ends to run out when collecting 10 of the last 11 points won and so ended up as the first-ever Winter Cup Champion.

Robert Tracey has produced a video before on a day of Winter League bowling at Springwood which produced much interest and favourable comment so we were delighted to learn that he had turned his artistic talent to compile a video record of the Winter Cup Finals Day. This is deliberately a short video of 1minute 30 seconds to act as a trailer to, and create interest in, the Winter League bowling and especially the Winter Cup competition.
