The competition was started by the Sykes family after the passing of Paul Sykes and is staged in his memory. His son, Liam, is a bowler and he is the main lead in organising the competition. Paul's father was Dave Sykes who was an official of the Huddersfield Veterans League for many years and who passed away earlier this year.
