The rule change that got lost

Veterans League

One rule change that we were told to expect to see on the agenda of the Veterans League's Half-Year Meeting appears to have disappeared off the Management Committee's radar.

This concerns the 2022 Pairs KO competition when one pair consisted of two bowlers from different clubs as reported here at the time. The League opted to take no action at that time as they believed that there was (another) loophole in their rules. This they acknowledged and stated in writing that they would address the matter with a rule change this year. They even shared the proposed rewording of the rule to prove their intent.

However, that intent seems to have wavered over time and the promised change has disappeared altogether so allowing even more people to abuse the spirit of the rules by exploiting this loophole in 2023.

The current KO Competition rules say:

7d) Pairs, both players must be from the same club. 10) To enter the individual or pairs competitions all entrants must have played three league games. Other people wishing to enter can do so at the discretion of the Management Committee.

The reworked rule as provided by an Official of the League on 22 May: To enter the individual or pairs competitions all entrants must have played three league games FOR THE CLUB HE HAS ENTERED FROM. Other people wishing to enter can do so at the discretion of the Management Committee.

So what has happened to drop this from the agenda? Who knows?
