A review of the 6-Man League matches played on Easter Monday

ree

What a turn up in the Veterans' 6-Man League this week with the top 5 teams in Division 1 failing to win a match between them. Honley Con were the leaders going into the Week 3 fixture programme and they remain top despite losing 2-5 away at Thongsbridge 'B' who are starting to show the form that pushed them into the top three last season.

Champions Shepley 'A' went down 2-5 at Brockholes 'A' although this was an improvement on the 1-6 defeat at the same green last year. Completing the bleak outcome for the leading quintet of teams were away defeats for Lockwood Con (3-4 at Netherton Con) and Golcar C&BC (2-5 at Milnsbridge BC).

Longwood are excused as their match versus Linthwaite Hall was postponed to avoid a clash with Finals Day of the Roger Crowther Memorial Trophy being played on their green. That does mean that they are now the only unbeaten team in the top division although still dropping into the bottom half of the updated league table.

Crosland Moor, Brockholes 'A' and Netherton Con are the real beneficiaries of the Easter Monday programme as they now make up the top four along with Honley Con who hang on to top spot. Crosland Moor were the biggest winners of the day with a 6-1 victory over Lindley Lib 'A' and that leaves a very congested table with 2 points separating the top 7 teams.

In Division 2 a 7-0 whitewash win for Slaithwaite over Paddock I&C sent them 4-points clear at the top of the table with Clayton West tagging along behind with a 4-point deficit. Marsh United 'A' hold the only unbeaten record in this division probably due to the fact that they have played one match less than their immediate opponents but that one match in hand makes them serious challengers for the early leadership of this division. New Mill remain as the only team in this division still awaiting their first win of the season after this 2-5 reversal at Marsh United 'A'.

The Skelmanthorpe derby match between the Windmill's two teams went the way of the 'B' side who emerged 5-2 victors over the 'A' team. Both teams being locked together on 7-points with Meltham and Holmfirth 'A' also on the same total. Lindley Lib 'B' managed to field a team for this week's fixture and duly won 5-2 over Holmfieth 'A' but stay rooted to the foot of the table.

Golcar Lib is the most selected 6-man team in the Fantasy League and they are justifying that support with 3 wins from their opening 3 matches with the latest being an impressive 6-1 away win at Hemplow. That sees them topping the Division 3 table with Marsh Lib the only other unbeaten team in this division although only having played two home matches to date. The latest dislodged Thongsbridge 'A' from the top slot with an emphatic 6-1 scoreline resulting in a first defeat of the season for the Holme Valley side.

Primrose Hill Lib move into third position following a 5-2 away win at Holmfirth 'B' and a 92-90 aggregate win for Greenhead Park saw them collect four valuable away points at Marsh United 'B'. The foot of the table clash between the two bottom teams went the way of the home side as Shepley 'B' overcame Brockholes 'B' by 6-1 and move up four places in the table as a result.
