Knock-Out competition update

Winter League

Last month we announced the generous donation of a new trophy to be awarded annually to the winner of a new individual KO competition and you can read all about it here.

The League's Management Committee will meet next Tuesday to finalise arrangements for the first staging of this new competition among a number of other matters also to be progressed.

The gift of the trophy comes from Kirkheaton Con bowlers Garry Senior and Tony Butterfield and they have named it The Winter Cup. The likely format of the competition is that each of the three divisions will hold their own one-day KO Qualifying competition. So all Division 3 bowlers entering the competition will have a straight KO competition at Thorpe Green; Division 2 at Springwood and Division 1 at Milnsbridge.

The format of the competition has still to be finalised but could see the top 2 bowlers from each of the Qualifying Rounds progressing to Finals Day where the 6 qualifiers will be drawn in competition against each other with the eventual winner lifting The Winter Cup. Alternatively, the top 6 qualifiers could be joined by the top two scoring losing bowlers to make 8 bowlers going into Finals Day.

We have run out of time to include the competition within our normal winter season so we are now looking at running it over the first two weeks in April before most summer leagues have started their seasons. We expect that entry will be opened up next week for the first time and hope that bowlers will support this new competition as the League continues to grow in all areas. Full details after next Tuesday's Management Committee meeting.

The meeting will also start arrangements for the Club's End-of-Season meeting to be held in March along with any proposed changes to League Rules. Any club that wishes to put forward any proposed changes to our rules needs to be aware of General Rule 12 which says ....

Suggested rule changes from clubs must be proposed and seconded in writing from two clubs and must be received by the Secretary 28 days prior to the March meeting. Rule changes may also be recommended by the Management Committee. All proposals will be circulated to all clubs at least 21 days in advance of the meeting date.

Further details will be provided on these pages well in advance of the deadline.
