Last day shenanigans in Division 4

Winter League

The last day of the Division 4 season and we still don't know which two teams will be promoted and which one of those will be the 2025-26 Champions. The three long-time contenders are taking this business through to a fitting climax with Primrose Hill almost, but not quite, assured of a promotion place. With Elland WMC and Netherton Con A playing each other only a 6-2 win for the Netherton team could still see Primrose Hill Lib pushed out of the promotion place they have held all season. However their destiny is in their own hands as only a 0-8 defeat to relegation-threatened Lindley Lib C would set up such a final scenario.

But which team will go up with them will be determined in the last day meeting of the two team contenders. Elland have the better recent form record but that counts for little as nerves kick in to influence the outcome.

Who will join Huddersfield Recreation Club in slipping through the relegation trapdoor? It will be either Brockholes A (40 points) or Lindley Lib C (45 points). As Lindley Lib C play a Primrose Hill Lib team needing points to clinch the Division 4 title anything could happen. But Brockholes A will need to win their final fixture against Linthwaite Hall A to really shake up the current placings.

Rastrick and Thongsbridge have battled against each other all season to be top dog in the Division 10 table and here we are with two matches to be played and nothing sorted. It is clear that if either team fails to record 8-0 wins this Monday against bottom three opposition, then they will go into the final day showdown between the top two at a distinct disadvantage.

All this could play into the hands of Outlane in their quest to avoid finishing in a relegation place. With their two rivals for the safety spot engaged with top two opponents then this could open a route to safety if they can take some points off Brockholes D this Monday. Then the circus will continue into the final day of the season when Brockholes E and Holmfirth B face each other. For that to be a deciding fixture then Brockholes E need to be within range of Holmfirth B before a jack is rolled.
