Veterans league
Review of matches played on Monday 11 April in the Veterans 6-Man League Sixteen league matches were scheduled for Monday and 15 of those ended in home wins with the one exception being in Division 1 where Longwood had a great 6-2 win at Lockwood Con which elevated them to equal top place in the early league table. Level with them are newly promoted Honley Con who clocked up a second successive opening victory when beating last year's runners-up Netherton Con by 6-1.
That win was quite an opening statement from Longwood as they also had a good win the week before over Golcar C&BC who this week went on to record a good 6-1 home win over Thongsbridge 'B'. Last year the top three teams were separated by just 3 points but last year's third-placed Thongsbridge 'B' are some way off the pace this time around as they made it two defeats from their first two matches this time at Golcar C&BC.
So it is all change at the top of the early league table although Champions Shepley 'A' did return to winning ways after an opening day defeat. They edged a close encounter with Milnsbridge BC by 4-3, courtesy of a better aggregate total after losing out on the game score 2-3.
Linthwaite Hall lost 1-6 for the second week and their elevation straight into the top division currently looks like a step too far at present although there is still plenty of time to go to rectify things. The other Division 1 match saw Brockholes get their first win of the season with a 5-2 home win over Crosland Moor which included a 21-1 pairs win for Brockholes bowlers David Oldham and Richard Johnstone.
Into Division 2 where Slaithwaite came down to earth after their opening day win but missing out this Monday when going out on the aggregate points when going down 85-88 and losing the match score as a result 3-4. That puts them one point behind Marsh United A who beat Clayton West 5-2 who hold 3rd place despite that setback.
Although there were 15 home wins this week one of those went to Meltham 7-0 as Lindley Lib 'B' defaulted by being unable to field a team. With a bye the previous week it has not been a good introduction to this team who are new to the League.
Holmfirth 'A' opened their season with a good 5-2 home win over New Mill who lost for the second time.
Thongsbridge 'A' have gone off at a rate of knots at the top of the Division 3 table and a 6-1 home win over Shepley 'B' enabled them to open a three-point lead over Golcar Lib already. The Golcar Lib side was pushed all the way by visitors Almondbury Lib before claiming 5 points and second place.
Primrose Hill Lib won all four singles games in their 6-1 home win over Brockholes 'B' who go bottom. Hemplow opened their season with an emphatic 5-2 home victory over Marsh United 'B' and Greenhead Park collected their first win of the season when beating Holmfirth 'B' 5-2.
