Veterans League
The holders of the Veterans League Open Pairs KO are Tim Poulter and Edwin Haigh of Clayton West having won the title in 2019 when it was last played and they progressed to the 2022 Finals Day with a comfortable 21-5 Round 1 win at Crosland Moor yesterday.
The 2016 winning partnership of the Lockwood Cons pairing of Mick Cox and Eddie Haigh
didn't fair as well being eliminated in a fascinating meeting with Garry Senior and Tony Butterfield of Kirkheaton Con. The Kirkheaton pair collected four at the first end only for them all to be wiped out at the next end when four chalks went the other way. The match was over in 17 ends with an entertaining 21-15 scoreline played in good spirit as can be seen by this photograph with the four bowlers in deep discussion after the match.
The Springwood pair of John Pix and Graham Summers received a bye for the second time when their Round 1 opponents failed to show so they are now through two rounds and on to Finals Day without playing a match. The full results from Round 1 along with the draw for the Quarter-Finals are all below.
