Hemplow knock Cowcliffe out of Team KO

Veterans League

There was just one major shock result in the opening round of the 10-Man League Team KO competition on Thursday when Division 2 side Hemplow 'A' eliminated Division 1 Cowcliffe with a 129-127 aggregate scoreline. The +15 handicap proving decisive on this occasion along with the unique Paddock I&C green to conjure up the shock result. Despite only winning 2 of the 7 games the aggregate score is what counts in this competition and that went in Hemplow's favour.

Other than that upset the rest of the results went with the formbook with the top two teams from Division 1, Marsh United 'A' and Kirkheaton Con 'A', confirming their league form with straightforward passages through to Round 2. As they are in separate halves of the draw there is a clear route to a top-two final but I am sure that a number of teams will expect to have a say in that outcome and there are many woods to be sent down before we are near to realising any August line-up.

There was just one other very close result and that was in the all-Division 2 clash between Thorpe Green and Almondbury BC 'A' when the 123-121 scoreline in Almondbury's favour set up a Round 2 clash with Division 1 side Lindley BC 'A' at Paddock I&C, the home of shock results. There is only one Division 3 side left in the competition and that is courtesy of a bye in Round 1 where Golcar Lib 'B' progress to meet Lindley Lib 'A' on the Almondbury BC green.

Lockwood Con 'A' are looking for a third consecutive title win in this competition and they started that objective in commanding style winning all 7 games in their match with Thongsbridge 'A' to run out 147-109 winners and setting up a Round 2 tie against the giant-killing Hemplow 'A' side.
