Divisions 5 & 6 leaders to be overtaken

Winter League

A preview of the Winter League Divisions 5 & 6 fixtures for Thursday 16 October

The table toppers in Divisions 5 and 6 are both on a bye week this Thursday so who is primed up to take over from them at the top of the division tables?

Slaithwaite started their Winter League experience in the most commanding of styles with an 8-0 win to top the first Division 5 table of the season. But they are on a bye week this Thursday so who is best positioned to take over from them?

In pole position is the Brockholes B team who also had an 8-0 opening day win and they take on the host's B team this week. The Netherton Con B side lost their opening fixture so will be keen to address that setback and with home advantage could upset the form book with a surprise outcome.

Also in contention is the Huddersfield Recreation Club B team who responded to last season's relegation in the most positive manner with an opening day win and they sit in 3rd place at present.

Jackson Bridge begin their season and first taste of Division 5 bowling when meeting Springwood C this Thursday. Almondbury BC B could still have had a hangover from last season's final day capitulation which cost them promotion when they drew with league new boys Outlane last week. Time to shake off that setback and return to the form that took them to the table top at the start of the last day of last season and set their stall out to reproduce that kind of form again. They meet another new team to the League in Mirfield A who are expected to be more aware of the demands of winter bowling after their opening day defeat last week.

Linthwaite Hall will not expect to hang on to their two points lead at the top of the Division 6 table when they take a break this Thursday but they will be hoping that the B teams from Kirkheaton Cons and Lockwood Cons can do them a favour by taking points off their nearest rivals. New Mill C have collected more Aggregate For points than any other team in the division to push them into 2nd place just above the home team of Huddersfield RUFC who remain unbeaten after three matches.

Kirkheaton Con B are still looking for their first win and would really like to do that sooner rather than later although a meeting with the 2nd placed team may delay that target a little longer. Whereas Lockwood Con B have already tasted victory before and will want to savour that again when facing the host club's team this week.

Two teams looking for their first wins of the season go head-to-head when Golcar C&BC take on Mirfield B and Broad Oak have picked up points in both of their matches to date but still await a first win. They will be pushed all the way by Cowcliffe who have made a promising start to their Winter League experience by winning 2 of their opening 3 fixtures.
