Club News: Almondbury BC
In recent years Almondbury BC has revived the annual competition between a 12-woman team from Yorkshire Ladies to take on a Yorkshire Juniors (Mixed) team for the Eddie Swaine Cup. The enforced absence of the competition over the past two years has been further hit by the passing of the two main organisers of the event in the last 12 months. The club is committed to retaining this memorial with its unique format.
The competition is in memory of Eddie Swaine, the father of club member Vera Silcock. Vera and her husband Tony reintroduced this competition a few years ago and it has been run as a challenge match between the Yorkshire Ladies and Yorkshire Juniors (mixed). Sadly both Vera and Tony passed away in the last 12 months, both being huge supporters of Yorkshire bowling giving both their time and generous gifts to all squads. The unique format really does work as it tends to produce close results and this year is expected to be no different.
The competition will start at 6pm this Saturday (21 May) with free entry for all, food being available and the club will be proud to show off it's refurbished bar.
