Winter League's first season abandoned

Winter League

The Winter League Management Committee met yesterday and top of the agenda was the outcome of the inaugural league season. The Government's Road Map brings clarity to the options now open and it is with great regret that the decision has been taken to abandon the opening season of the League.

No matches have been played since 22 December when the season was halted for the Christmas break. However, that was followed by Lockdown3 which stopped resumption of the fixture programme in January and we have been in lockdown ever since.

There are still another 6 fixture dates required, 4 to complete that League season and then two play-off matches per team. Taking everything into account and the unknown delayed start dates for most of the summer leagues coupled with doubts about bowler availability it has been decided to terminate the programme now. The two host clubs are both keen to undertake their Spring green maintenance programmes ready for the summer season which was also a factor.

A full report on this and other decisions taken at this Management Committee meeting will be online later this week.
