Slaithwaite take top spot as leaders slip-up

Veterans League

Review of the results in the Veterans 6-Man League from Monday 22 April

We forecast a tough assignment for last week's Division 1 leaders and so it proved as Lindley Lib A went down for the first time this season at Skel Windmill. A 6-1 scoreline left the Skel boys holding one of the two remaining unbeaten records and in 2nd place in the table.

Slaithwaite are above them with a one-point advantage after a 6-1 home win over Crosland Moor. Lindley Lib A dropped to 4th place one behind Brockholes A who moved above them despite also losing for the first time going down 3-4 at home to the reigning title winners, Marsh United.

Shepley A appear to be a shadow of the team that won the title in 2022 and 2023 and they lost for the third time this season going 2-5 to Golcar C&BC who were winning for the first time. There was also a first win of the season for Lockwood Con who won their home fixture with Paddock I&C by 6-1. Away wins for Thongsbridge A and Milnsbridge BC A completed the week's fixture programe.

Marsh Lib have opened up a three-points lead at the top of Division 2 after recording their third win of the year this time by the day's only 7-0 scoreline over Elland C&BC who are in danger of a 2nd consecutive relegation and are already three-points adrift of their nearest rivals.

New Mill lost top spot after a first defeat, 2-5 away at Lindley Lib B but hang on to 2nd place courtesy of a better 'Aggregate For' total (292-266) over the unbeaten Clayton West team. A first win for Linthwaite Hall was most welcome and pulled their opponents, Hemplow, back into the drop zone which sees 6 teams within one point of the second relegation place which Linthwaite Hall continue to occupy for now.

Bradley & Colne are also in that mix despite clocking up an impressive first win of the campaign away to Longwood by 6-1. Greenhead Park and Almondbury both lost their Monday fixtures to also feature in that drop zone mix.

Primrose Hill Lib lost for the first time when going down 2-5 to the unbeaten and still the Division 3 table toppers from Brockholes B. Denby Dale continue to sit two-points behind the leaders after a 5-2 home win over Skel Windmill B. The new Greenhead Park B side continue to feature prominently in the table by moving up to third place after a 5-2 away win at Marsh United B. Wins for Marsh Lib B (5-2 away at Shepley B) and Holmfirth B (4-3 at home to Meltham) completed the day's results.
