Winter League AGM reports

Winter League

All the Winter League teams have now been sent details of the Annual General Meeting and a copy of that letter along with the Agenda, financial update and proposed rule changes which are also below. The structure of the 5 divisions has already been shared on this website. Is the Winter League the only bowling league to be so transparent in all its dealings by the open publication of its business papers?

Notification of AGM sent to all clubs in the Winter League:

Dear All

The League's Management Committee met on Thursday to progress matters ready for the start of the 2022-23 Winter League season. The agenda for the Annual General Meeting was finalised and this is attached with relevant papers.

The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of all teams will take place at Milnsbridge BC on Wednesday 3 August starting at 2.00pm. All teams should be represented at this meeting.

All teams should pay their League Fees (£15 per team) before the meeting starts so that they are entitled to vote at the meeting. You can pay cash on the day or by BACS in advance (full details are included on the agenda paper). Please do not pay by cheque as this incurs additional costs for the League.

The proposed structure of all the Divisions for the new season is included in your AGM papers and there is also a separate copy attached for you to circulate to your team bowlers.

Team numbers have increased from 27 last season to 40 teams for the coming season - a tremendous increase reflecting the growing popularity of bowling during the winter months and the success of the League in meeting that demand.

For the new 2022-23 season we will have 5 Divisions with 8 teams in each Division. This change from 3 Divisions of 9 teams in each Division has resulted in some restructuring of the Divisions. We have honoured all the promotion and relegation matters from last season but some additional teams have been relegated to reduce the numbers in each Division.

In addition we have had to accommodate 13 new teams. All the new teams have been placed in Divisions 4 and 5 except for Lockwood Con who have been placed in Division 2. The Management Committee felt that the strength of the Lockwood Cons team justified elevation to this level to ensure that all teams in each Division were at the most appropriate level and would be competitive at each level. We recognise that some changes may not be popular with all teams, sorry we have done our best in the circumstances. We also recognise that some clubs will now be listed to play on different days of the week and that may cause a problem for them. If that is a problem for your team then please get in touch as soon as possible to explain your problem. If it is possible to swap some teams around to overcome such problems then we may be able to do so.

The new start time for all matches for the new season Is 11.30am.

We have two new host greens and the weekly format will be: Division 1: Wednesdays at Milnsbridge Division 2: Wednesdays at Springwood Division 3: Mondays at Thorpe Green Division 4: Mondays at Lindley Lib Division 5: Thursdays at Netherton Con

Once we finalise the League structure at the AGM and learn of the availability dates of all our host greens we will be able to prepare the 2022-23 fixture programme.

Meanwhile all teams are encouraged to provide any updates on bowler registrations for the new season. These need adding to the Bowlsnet system ready for the start of the season. Send me an email with any amendments or additions.

I look forward to seeing you or your representative at the AGM and to finalising arrangements for the new season which I have no doubt will be the best yet as we continue to expand and make winter bowling part of the 12-month bowling season.

Any problems or concerns please come back to me. Don't moan about anything you are unhappy about, tell us what it is and we may be able to help resolve any difficulties.

Jeff Jacklin Secretary, Huddersfield Winter League
