Winter Cup Finals Day line-up

Winter Cup

The latest qualifying rounds of the 2024 Winter Cup were played out at Lindley Lib on Wednesday leaving the last eight standing to progress through to Finals Day which takes place this Sunday. The most popular score of the day was 21-20 with 4 of the 16 games played ending in that scoreline.. That included the husband and wife confrontation which saw Julie Mallinson eliminate Steve from the competition.

Four of the final eight playoff scratch (Inter-District or County bowlers) and three teams have two representatives through to the quarter-finals. One of the four scratch bowlers is Tony Butterfield of Kirkheaton Con. Tony along with teammate, Garry Senior, is responsible for donating the Winter Cup to the League in 2022

Three of the final eight are lady bowlers and we are set for an interesting day of bowling at Lindley Lib on Sunday afternoon. There is also a good split over the divisions with four of the six divisions represented at the final stage as shown in the table below.

Although the rain was never far away at Wednesday's gathering it didn't damage the playing or social elements of the day. With a crowd of 50 enjoying the three hours of bowling of a very high standard with a series of close results. The weather forecast is much better for the weekend and for once we would prefer not to have to withstand a Winter backdrop for our showpiece event.

All the results are also on our Bowlsnet pages. Click on this link then on COMPS from the top border menu and then on Winter Cup Finals Day

All bowlers are reminded that we will be observing the BCGBA Dress Code for the day and any bowler not adhering to this may be excluded from the competition. The full dress code can be read here but basically that means:

  • Shirts must be collared with sleeves

  • Trousers shall be black or navy, single colour, full length and tailored.

  • Shorts must be tailored, black or navy and single coloured

  • Skirts (knee length) shall be black or navy

Nothing in the above rule shall be interpreted to allow the wearing of tracksuits, shell suits, combat trousers, leggings or skinny jeans. External pockets on the legs are not allowed.
