Vets League makes 4th different decision on heatwave - I think!

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

Veterans League

If you are following the saga of written guidance offered by the Veterans League about the action for Monday and Tuesday matches then stand by for Episode 3. They've changed their minds yet again. I'm not sure that it is going to be the last. The divided Committee once again shows their inability to work together for the good of bowling rather than the internal in-fighting that has blighted their time in office and damaged what was once the best Veterans League in the country.

Updated: Episode 4 just arrived

Just received copy of an email timed at 17:02 from the League's General Secretary which now says

Notice to HVBA club reps

The Association has refined its position on adverse weather conditions that are forecast for Monday and Tuesday 18 and 19 July.

ALL HVBA FIXTURES ARE POSTPONED ON THE ABOVE DATES

Fixtures can be re-arranged between captains and the fixture completed before 16 August. All fixtures not played by that date will be rescheduled on Monday and Tuesday, 3 and 4 October.

Teams have 28 days from 19 July to re-arrange and play the fixture. Please ensure your captains and players are aware of this ruling which has been made in the best interest of veteran bowlers.

Richard Armitage, General Secretary

The third different posting on the HDVBA Bowlsnet page in the last 36 hours was added around 5pm Sunday and has yet another decision on Veterans League matches for Monday and Tuesday. The latest one says

ALL GAMES ON MONDAY 18TH AND TUESDAY 19TH JULY ARE CANCELLED

This contradicts the email sent out to some, but not all, clubs this morning which repeats the guidance posted on the HDVBA website added at 10.01pm last night. This says

HEATWAVE UPDATE POSTED AT 2201 HRS SATURDAY 16TH JULY.

ANY CLUBS WHO ARE PLANNING TO SET UP AN ALTERNATE DATE PLEASE DONT FORGET TO INFORM ME,I WILL THEN UPDATE BOWLSNET ACCORDINGLY.ANY FIXTURES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REARRANGED OR PLAYED BY WEDNESDAY 20TH JULY WILL BE MOVED TO TUESDAY 4TH OCTOBER.

Then the one below was the first of the three-some which was put on their Bowlsnet homepage at 10.15am Saturday morning.

The Veterans League's previous statement issued at 10.15am on Saturday said .... Due to the extreme heat forecast for next monday 18th july, and tuesday 19th july, the M.C. have given the league secretary permission to to use discretion regarding rearranged fixtures. so any teams that are having concerns about bowling on these dates can set up an alternate date. the league secretary must be informed, alternate dates must be agreed by both teams within 7 days and played within 28 days in compliance with our rules. any problems contact the league secretary on 07780445336 or 01484 323338 or email sykesdavid257@gmail.com

If you are totally confused and have actioned all the guidance as it has been presented then you deserve a lay-down. We await Episode 5 with bated breath!!! Totally chaotic!!!

Meanwhile just another quiet day on the HVBA website where there is no mention of anything about a heatwave or any postponements or anything much at all for some while.

Correct decision to cancel all games but is there some reason that all matches cannot be played on October 3rd and 4th this surely would have made it easier for the fixture secretary
