ALL OUR YESTERDAYS - 15 years ago in 2006

Another step back in time for our All Our Yesterdays series when we go back to 2006 to recall a successful day for our Veterans representative team.
Huddersfield's Veterans Inter-District Hickson Trophy team beat old adversaries and defending Champions, Sheffield, to be crowned Yorkshire Inter-District Knock-Out Champions. The single-day competition was hosted by Huddersfield this time and our team played three matches in the day before running out 222-199 winners in the Final on the No.1 green at Meltham.
Previous to that they had narrowly beaten Castleford 218-215 at Thongsbridge to progress to the semi-finals where they took on North Kirklees on the Meltham No.2 green. Ten winners ensured a 243-183 passage to the Final waiting for them there was the defending Champions Sheffield after they beat Halifax 251-170 at Newsome in the other semi-final.
After the first round of 4 matches in the Final our representative team trailed by 14 points. However a 21-4 victory for Trevor Sykes addressed that deficit which was quickly backed up with a 21-8 win by player-of-the-day Marsh United's Roy Tipple. President of the Huddersfield Bowling Association, Dougie Mellor, presented the trophy to captain Frank Greenwood to conclude a great day in Huddersfield bowling history.
Thanks to Frank Greenwood for the photo.
