League News
Looking ahead to Monday's round of fixtures in the Veterans 6-Man League with a full set of matches to ponder over and consider the opportunities in our weekly Section-by-Section analysis.
Shepley won the last of their three 6-Man League Section A titles back in 2012 and last year (2019) were Runners-Up to Netherton Con. This week the only top section unbeaten record is at stake as Shepley seem to be setting up a serious attempt to secure the title once again and they currently lead the table by 3 points. Longwood are the latest opponent to try and halt that winning run and they themselves have a proud history in this competition having won the title three times from 2014-16. Home advantage for Longwood could be key although being nearer the foot of the table rather than the top tells its own tale of Longwood's more recent fortunes.
The teams in 2nd and 3rd places meet up at Crosland Moor where reigning Champions Netherton Con are the visitors and a close encounter is expected. Milnsbridge and Paddock I&C are battling to stay out of the 2nd relegation place with Paddock currently residing there but the teams are locked together on 7 points each so another close battle is anticipated.
One point separates the top three teams in Section B and two of that trio go head-to-head this week when the leaders, Marsh United, host third-placed Golcar Lib. Second-placed Honley have the day off and the other fixture of note is the bottom two facing each other. Botton team Primrose Hill Lib have home advantage over Meltham and the 4-point gap between them could quickly disappear.
Almondbury Lib and Holmfirth 'B' both have unbeaten Section C records to date, both are on 15 points with a one-point difference in the aggregate so things could hardly be much closer between them. Things may be about to change. Almondbury Lib travel to play 4th-placed Shepley 'B' with the Holmfirth side going to Brockholes 'B' whilst Slaithwaite continue to operate under the radar in 3rd place two points behind the two leaders but with a game in hand over both of them. The bottom two teams go head-to-head this Monday with bottom team Thongsbridge 'A' having to go to Marsh Lib and one point behind them which could suddenly become a much wider gap.
