Ultimate test for Shepley

League News

Veteran's 6-Man league

The top four teams in Section A confront each other this week with leaders Shepley 'A' having the ultimate test of playing away at reigning Champions Netherton Con. But the pressure is on 3rd-placed Netherton as well as they are currently 8 points behind Shepley and this is the obvious opportunity to reduce that gap considerably. The leaders are looking to extend their Played 5 Won 5 record but it wont get much harder for them than this. Second-placed Brockholes 'A' could be the ones to take advantage of any slip up by the leaders but they will have to be at their best when they travel to fourth-placed Milnsbridge BC.

There is an equally interesting situation in Section B where the top two teams, Golcar Lib and Honley Con, will meet with them level on points but only 2 points ahead of the next 4 teams. So it is possible that the losers of this match could find themselves out of the top 4 if results go against them. However their focus will be on winning and claiming top spot for themselves with Honley Con enjoying their first season in the League and well-positioned to hit the top at some stage with the game in hand they have over the leaders. Meltham and Skel Windmill 'A' are locked together on 17 points just two points off the top and they go head-to-head this week as well with the Skel side really needing to win this match as they have already played a game more than their opponents. Marsh United could be the major beneficiary of these top clashes as they currently sit 3rd and have the easier looking match away at bottom team Primrose Hill Lib.

New Section C leaders Almondbury Lib will be looking to extend their winning start to the season when they host Thongsbridge 'A' this Monday but really need to stack up some points with just a 2-point lead over Slaithwaite who have a game in hand over them. They also have an unbeaten record which shouldn't be seriously threatened at Shepley 'B' if things run to form. There is a huge opportunity for bottom team Marsh Lib to gain a first win of the season when they entertain Hemplow who sit a place above them in the table and if they do then the added incentive of moving off the foot of the table awaits as well.
