Mirfield League
The top three in Division 1 have just three points separating them and there have been different leaders each week for the last 3 weeks but is that about to change? The current leaders are Thongsbridge 'A' and they have a home match against mid-table Dearne Sports this Tuesday. Fourth-placed Crossgates 'A' could dampen 2nd-placed Lower Hopton 'A's hopes of closing the gap as they matched Thongsbridge 'A' last week when they drew 5-5. Maybe the key rests with 3rd placed Pudsey 'A' who are away at foot-of-the-table Ossett Flying Horse 'A' who are seriously adrift being 19 points from safety. It may be that better times are ahead for them as after this week their four home games will all have been against the top four teams so only after that are we likely to see any shoots of recovery.
Only one 10-man team has a 100% winning record and that is the Division 2 leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' and they will not expect to lose that record this week when they travel to play bottom team The Harold Club. It is difficult to envisage their two nearest challengers having a better outcome points-wise this week as 2nd-placed Woodlands Park are away to Pudsey 'B' and third in the table Alverthorpe 'A' face Eccleshill.
Division 3 leaders Dodworth have a bye week and could find themselves overtaken by Littlemoor 'B' who need 8-points from their trip to Rothwell to pass them. That will be no easy task as only Dodworth have won at Rothwell this season. The teams in 3rd and 4th places meet up at Shipley where Cleckheaton Sports 'A' are the visitors and if that is a close encounter then 5th placed Ossett C&AC are poised to overtake them both as they have bottom of the table Milnsbridge 'A' as their guests.
The teams in 2nd and 3rd places in Division 4 are locked together on 46 points and face each other this week. Lowerhouses have home advantage over Farsley BC and they have won their previous three home matches including against the leaders Thornhill C&BC. The leaders travel to meet lowly Spen Victoria 'B' and will be confident of at least matching the points gained by either of their two challengers and preserving that 5-point lead. The bottom two teams also meet up as Denby Grange 'B' are at Mirfield Old Bank who will hope to collect sufficient points to take them out of the drop zone.
Morton House hold the only unbeaten record by an 8-man team and they will look to build on their 17-point lead at the top of Division 5 at lowly Longwood. The teams in 3rd and 4th places meet this week and both have 43 points that is one point behind Heckmondwike. Cleckheaton Sports 'B' host Alverthorpe 'B' and the winner could be rewarded with a top-two spot.
Three points between the top three teams in Division 6 and two of them meet up when Golcar Lib entertain the leaders Netherton Con' The team tucked between them is Thongsbridge 'B' and they have an easier looking assignment away to Milnsbridge 'B' who have only collected 10 points from their 7 matches but they will be heartened by their first win of the season last week, a notable achievement when winning 6-4 away at Bradley & Colne. That defeat has dragged Bradley & Colne into the relegation battle and they have to play 2nd bottom Almondbury BC who will be looking to take full advantage of playing at home against a team seemingly out of form to reduce the 5-point gap between the two teams.
With the teams in first and third places in Division 7 both on a bye this week focus turns to the bottom of the table where the bottom two meet with just two points separating them. Bottom team Thorpe Green 'B' are away from home and will want to test Springwood 'B's resolve in preserving their 2 point advantage.
