Two key matches this week in the Division 2 promotion and relegation tussles as the bottom two teams face each other when Meltham A play Lindley Lib A. Both teams find themselves in a second successive year of fighting off relegation. Last season both failed in their efforts to stay in Division 1 and both have made lanquid starts to the new season. It is not looking good for them at present and things could get worse for the day's loser especially if that is the Meltham side as they are already 8 points off safety.

The targets for the two strugglers are the two Lowerhouses teams who topped the table at the end of week 1 but have quickly gone backwards from there. Now locked together on 10 points has to be especially disappointing for the A team and to be placed behind their own C team doesn't augur well for the immediate future. This week the A team take on Milnsbridge A whilst the B team has the ultimate test of playing the Division leaders Clayton West who have a 100% win record to date and will not expect to relinquish that this Tuesday.

The second key Tuesday fixture is New Mill B (2nd) versus Marsh United (3rd). One point between the two teams means that the winner of this fixture will at least sit in second place come Tuesday teatime. New Mill B ended last season with 5 straight wins to lift the Division 3 title on a better 'Aggregate For' total and they have continued that form into the start of this season. Marsh United finished last season in 3rd place in this Division and with the two runaway teams promoted out of the reckoning they were expecting to pick up the pace and push hard for promotion. Maybe they will but the two teams above them have started brightly and confidence tends to breed success.
