Trio burst clear at top of Division 1

League News

The fixture programme this week saw the top 6 teams playing each other in Division 1 and that certainly sorted some matters out as all 3 home teams won these key games. They also moved into the top 3 positions in the table with just 2 points separating them. Clear at the top are reigning Champions Thongsbridge C&BC 'A' after recording a 10-2 win over Littlemoor 'A'. Two points behind the leaders comes Pudsey 'A' and Lower Hopton 'A' both on 31 points. This trio has opened up a 5 point gap before Crossgates 'A' who have a 2-point lead over Denby Grange 'A' and Littlemoor 'A'.

Similarly at the foot of the table where the bottom 4 teams squared up to each other and the outcome was good for Lower Hopton 'B' as they became the last team to clock up a win this season after winning away at Ossett Flying Horse 'A' by an emphatic 9-3 scoreline and move out of the relegation places. Dearne Sports 9-3 home win over Crosland Moor resulted in them moving 6 points clear of the relegation zone.

In Division 2 Kirkheaton Con 'A' extended their lead at the top to 8 points after a 9-3 away win at Spen Victoria 'A' coupled with a 4-8 defeat for nearest challengers Woodlands Park at bottom of the division Brighouse Sports who were recording their first win of the season to move them up 3 places. The vacated bottom-spot being taken by Crossgates 'B' who lost 4-8 at home to Alverthorpe 'A' who take 3rd place. The Harold Club A side shared the points 6-6 with Pudsey B which didn't really do a lot for either of the two teams league positions. The Whitkirk v Eccleshill result is not available at the time of this report going online.

Home wins in all 4 of the Division 3 matches this week with Littlemoor 'B' creating a bit of an upset when beating Dodworth 10-2 and moving into 2nd place, one above their opponents but on the same number of points. Elland stay 2 points clear at the top after their 8-4 home win over Cleckheaton Sports 'A'. The bottom two swopped places when Horbury beat Milnsbridge 'A' 8-4 to move one point above them while Shipley beat Ossett C&AC 9-3 to draw level on points with them in mid-table.

All 4 home teams won in the Division 4 matches and two of those, Broad Oak 'A' and Lowerhouses, now occupy the leading two places in the table. The leaders recorded the best 10-man score of the day when beating Ossett Flying Horse 'B' 11-1 and Lowerhouses condemned Spen Victoria 'B' to bottom spot after beating them 10-2. That coupled with Denby Grange 'B' inflicting a first defeat of the season on Farsley by 10-2 pushed the Grange out of bottom place. That win was all the more remarkable as before this week they had only accumulated 7 points in 3 matches. Thornhill's promotion pretenses took a setback when losing 3-9 away at Mirfield Old Bank and they slipped from top to 3rd as a result.

Morton House retained the Division 5 top spot following their 9-1 win away at bottom team Marsh United. Despite that they didn't move any further ahead of Alverthorpe 'B' who had a similar 9-1 win over Cowcliffe. Heckmondwike retain an active interest in the honours after a 7-3 away win at Longwood kept them well in touch with the two leaders. The Harold Club 'B' team played their postponed opening day fixture against Marsh United last night (Wednesday) with both teams in the bottom two. However a 7-3 home win for The Harold Club saw them shoot up 4 places in the table to leave their opponents firmly rooted at the foot of the 10 teams.

In Division 6 Milnsbridge continued their dismal start to the season when suffering their third consecutive 0-10 reversal this time on their own green as Grange Moor took advantage of the hosts per run of form. That win which included a 21-2 win for 14-years old Eddie Gilbert, took the Moor into 3rd place close behind the top two who both lost 4-6 away from home this week. Leaders Thongsbridge 'B' going down at Bradley & Colne and Netherton Con losing to Rastrick.

Shepley are still top of Division 7 despite losing 3-7 at home to Springwood 'A' and in a good day for the Huddersfield town centre club their 'B' side also won 7-3 this time at home to Cleckheaton Sports 'C'. Only 3 matches scheduled in this division this week and in the other one Royds Park retained their unbeaten record and 2nd place after beating Dalton 8-2.

Two opening day fixtures hit by the weather will be played this week when the bottom two in Division 5 meet as The Harold Club 'B' has home advantage over Marsh United on Wednesday. Then on Friday in Division 2 Pudsey 'B' entertain Crossgates 'B'
