Veterans 10-Man League

Big match in Section 1 this week as the two teams sharing top spot confront each other when Elland C&BC 'A' welcome Lockwood Con 'A' for the big showdown. Level on points and only the Aggregate For totals (1525 - 1508) separating the two teams it is an enticing fixture that will be repeated in 2 weeks time this time on the Lockwood green. Elland have an unbeaten home record which will be sorely tested and the outcome could determine the destination of the 2021 Section 1 title and at least will increase the confidence of the victors and maybe produce the momentum to take them to the title. The chasing pack of 7 will be hoping for a close encounter between the top two to bring them back in reach and revive the faltering title ambitions of these teams who although 7 points behind the two leaders are then separated by just 6 points so some big movements can be expected. Two of those teams go head-to-head with 4th and 5th meeting at Clayton West where Longwood are the visitors. Waterloo have an unbeaten home record this season and won't expect that to be too severely tested by this week's visit from Meltham 'A'. The bottom two teams both have home fixtures this week with the 5 teams above them are all away from home so if any revival is likely then now is definitely the time to start.

Kirkheaton Con 'A' are on a run of 7 straight wins, 4 of them by the maximum 9-0 scoreline, as they entertain mid-table Bradley & Colne this Tuesday and have the insurance of a 15-point lead at the top of the Section 2 table. Almondbury BC 'A' started the season slowly with 3 defeats in their opening 4 matches but have picked up since then and with one defeat in their last 6 starts they are the form team as they travel to play third-placed Broad Oak 'A'. The other two teams in the top five are Lindley BC 'A' and Thorpe Green and both have away fixtures at bottom-half teams this week at Shepley and Hemplow respectively. Nine points separate the bottom 5 teams with the two teams at the extremes of that group of 5 in direct opposition this week as bottom team Paddock I&C have to go to Brockholes 'A'.

Two points separate the top three teams in Section 3 and leaders Lowerhouses look to have the more difficult task this week when they defend their unbeaten home record against the best away record in the section (won-4 lost-1) which belongs to Golcar Lib 'B'. Second-placed Slaithwaite have to go to mid-table Springwood and third-placed Holmfirth 'A' look to have the more straight-forward looking match at home to bottom-four side Brockholes 'B'. Lots to play for in the nether regions as 6 points between the bottom 5 with four of those meeting each other this week. The bottom two meet at Marsh United where their 'B' side host Outlane who are 3-points adrift at present. Third from bottom Lindley Lib 'B' will aim to build on last week's first win in five matches when they entertain the other bottom five outfit from Meltham 'B'.

There are 10 points between the top 5 teams in Section 4 and four of them meet up this week as the fifth member of that pack, Thongsbridge 'B', have the day off. Leaders Denby Dale will be aiming for an immediate bounce-back from their last match when they suffered defeat for the first time this season and they won't relish a trip to play fourth-placed and unbeaten at home Lindley BC 'B'. Third-placed Huddersfield Recreation Club also has a 100% win home record which will be tested by 5th placed Elland C&BC 'B' this Tuesday. The bottom two teams, Kirkheaton Con 'B' and Netherton Con 'B' are both away this week providing a great opportunity for Denby Dale conquerors, Almondbury BC 'B' to walk away from relegation danger if they can produce a third consecutive win as they start a run of 3 games against the bottom two teams with Netherton Con 'B' first up this week.

Marsh Lib lost the leadership at the top of Section 5 when surprisingly losing 3-6 at home to New Mill 'B' last week and this week go to play fourth-placed Greenhead Park who are on a good run of form which includes a 123-123 aggregate draw with new leaders the Rugby Club last week. The New Mill side will expect to build on last week's big win when hosting a Broad Oak 'B' team that has lost all five of their away matches to date. David Brown Sports will hope to extend their winning run to three games with a home encounter against third from bottom Holmfirth 'B' and move further away from bottom place which has been their home for much of the season up to now.
