Winter League
Review of the Division 3 and 4 matches played on Monday 7 November
The top teams in Divisions 3 and 4 are starting to show some determination to move away from the chasing pack with a trio of 8-0 whitewash wins. The Division 3 top 2 both clocked up 8-0 scorelines with the leaders Brockholes 'A' beating Springwood 'B' to go 5 points clear.
That top versus bottom clash wasn't a surprise but the second whitewash win wasn't expected. The teams in 2nd and 3rd place went up against each evel on 20 points. It was the Huddersfield Recreation Club that came out on top by 8-0 to see off Thorpe Green 'B' who drop to fourth place as a result.
That gave Rastrick 'B' an opening they gratefully accepted with a 6-2 victory over Almondbury BC 'A' to go third. The places in the bottom half of the table remain as they were with Dalton confirming their superiority over Paddock I&C 'A' when a 6-2 win ensured they stayed well clear of the developing relegation battle.
The Division 4 leaders also recorded an 8-0 whitewash win when Lindley Lib 'B' overwhelmed the Recreation Club's 'B' team to go 8 points clear at the top. Coupled with surprise defeats for their two closest challengers enabled them to open up an 8-point gap at the top of the table. Second placed Kirkheaton C&BC went down 2-6 to Netherton Con 'A' who were scoring their first win in Winter League bowling and moved off the bottom of the table as a result. That leaves the Recreation Club adrift at the bottom and the only team in the division still waiting for their first win of the season.
Marsh Lib also had a shock defeat going down 2-6 to Paddock I&C 'B' and that meant that they dropped a place to fourth after being overtaken by Milnsbridge 'B'. It was actually a two-place jump to third for the Milnsbridge 'B' side who beat Lowerhouses 'B' 6-2 to overtake them as well. So whilst the leaders may have an 8-point lead the next five teams are only separated by four points.
As these 5 teams have already proved that they can beat each other it promises a regal battle for the second promotion place although the top spot is far from being nailed on. Lindley Lib 'B' may have a 100% win record after 4 matches but they have only played one of the next 5 teams so far so things could still change and provide rich entertainment for the neutral observer.
