Top 3 showdowns in all 3 divisions

Veterans League

A preview of the fixtures in the 6-Man League on Monday 12 June

Big games in all three divisions of the 6-Man League this Monday. In Division 1 we have 1st v 3rd whilst in Divisions 2 and 3 it is 2nd v 3rd. We could see the balance of power shift in all three divisions this week.

Third v first is the top fixture in Division 1 as the table toppers Marsh United 'A' go to play Brockholes 'A' and with four points between them, we could see a swap in positions. Wedged in between those two is Netherton Con who put their unbeaten league record up against lowly Lockwood Con and with home advantage expect to win and possibly take over at the top of the table.

Fourth-placed Shepley 'A' could take advantage of the fixture programme if they beat Thongsbridge 'A' away from home. The Skel Windmill 'A' v Golcar C&BC match sees 5th v 6th and the potential for a top three place as the potential prize for the winners.

The bottom two teams also face each other with Elland C&BC hosting bottom-of-the-table Longwood and a real chance to claim their first win in the competition. Meanwhile the 8th and 9th positioned teams also go head-to-head as Crosland Moor welcome Milnsbridge BC 'A' to their green and the chance for one to change the one-point difference that currently exists between the two teams.

Division 2 leaders, Paddock I&C, will go to play bottom-of-the-table Linthwaite Hall but will be watching for the result of the 2nd v 3rd encounter as Lindley Lib 'A' host their Slaithwaite visitors. Both teams have Won-5 Lost-1 records but 4 points separate them which the Slaithwaite team will be keen to reduce. Clayton West and Golcar Lib are poised immediately behind the top three teams and they meet each other this Monday with the winner well placed to move up depending on the result of the 2nd v 3rd match.

The interest follows near the foot of the table as well as Denby Dale currently hold down the second relegation place and they play the team one point and immediately above them, Almondbury Lib. Then the next two teams up the table also go head-to-head as Skel Windmill 'B' travel to take on Holmfirth 'A' who have a place and a five-point cushion as well as home advantage as insurance against any change in expectations.

If either Milnsbridge 'B' or Lindley Lib 'B' have any aspirations to move into the promotion picture then this week is surely the time to move those hopes on as the two teams meet up in what could be the launchpad for a promotion bid or condemnation to mid-table mediocrity for the rest of the season.

The top six teams in Division 3 play each other with the feature pairing being Marsh United 'B' (3rd) versus Thongsbridge 'C' (2nd) who are both on 27 points along with 4th placed Holmfirth 'B'. So it is very tight and with the Holmfirth team having to travel to play 5th placed New Mill there is every chance of some upheaval at the top of the table.

Marsh Lib are the leaders after last week's thumping 7-0 win over Marsh United but having played 4 of their 6 matches to date at home may be falsely placed although they have played one less game than their prime rivals, so maybe not. This week they have to go to play the in form Primrose Hill Lib side who have won their last 3 matches.

Brockholes 'B' and Shepley 'B' are the bottom two teams and they risk being cast seriously adrift of all the other teams if they don't start picking up points soon. That wont be easy for either of them this week as the Brockholes team have to go to Hemplow whilst the Shepley side entertain Thongsbridge 'B'. Meltham and Greenhead have one point between them in the table so a close match is expected when the teams meet this Monday.
