Top 2 in Division 1 clash

Veterans League

Preview of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for 16 May

The top two teams in Division 1 meet this Tuesday with Rastrick desperately needing to peg back Golcar Lib 'A' before the gap widens to epic proportions for the sake of all the chasing teams. An eight point lead after six matches is significant but also catchable but any lengthening of it would send out the danger signals to all the other teams.

That pack of chasing teams includes Cowcliffe and Marsh United 'A' who both have a match in hand over the top two and they meet this week. One point separates the two teams and Cowcliffe will be looking for home advantage to play an important part in extending that points superiority. Fourth placed Meltham 'A' have only won one away match in the last 12 months and a trip to Kirkheaton Con this week may not change that record.

Milnsbridge 'A' and Lowerhouses came up together from Division 2 at the end of last season but it is Lowerhouses who have settled the better at this level so far. Milnsbridge will do well to remember that they completed a double over their visitors last season and a big win could reduce the seven points gap that currently divides the teams along with three places in the table.

Two teams we don't normally associate with bottom four positions, Lockwood Con 'A' and Longwood, currently reside there so making their confrontation this week of increasing importance. The same can be said of Elland C&BC who have only won one of their six matches to date and have had their usual home supremacy dented twice already this season and are at home to an improving Waterloo team this week.

The top four teams in Division 2 play each other this week with the leaders, Lindley Lib 'A' attempting to damage Broad Oak 'A's unbeaten home record. Whilst 2nd placed Netherton Con 'A' will hope to bounce back from a first defeat of the season last week when they take their unbeaten away record to 3rd placed Shepley with a single point separating the two teams at present.

Hemplow 'A' still await their first win of the season and it is asking a lot of them to deliver that away at Lindley BC 'A' who have won all of their three home matches to date. The two teams either side of Hemplow at the foot of the table meet each other this week. Bottom of the pile Bradley & Colne haven't won since the opening day of the season and will expect to rectify that record when hosting Holmfirth 'A' who sit two places and four points ahead of them at present.

One point but three places separate Thorpe Green and Thongsbridge 'A' as the two teams meet on the Thongsbridge green this Tuesday. Almondbury BC 'A' have won their last three fixtures whilst their Tuesday opponents, Linthwaite Hall, have lost their last three fixtures so that, plus home advantage, suggests that both team's records may get extended this time around.
