A review of the Veterans 6-Man League matches played on Monday 7 August
The top two teams in Division 1 both lost this week whilst the next three teams all won to take up closer order as the title race begins to warm up.
Shepley retain top spot after losing 3-4 at Thongsbridge 'B' whilst second-placed Honley Con also lost but by a 2-5 scoreline this time at Brockholes 'A' who are one of the chasing pack of three teams who all now sit within 6 points of top place. Netherton Con won 6-1 at home to Linthwaite Hall and Golcar C&BC had an excellent 6-1 away win at Crosland Moor to stay very much in the an open title race.
In the clash near the foot of the table Longwood beat Lindley Lib 'A' 5-2 to move up a place and above Thongsbridge 'B'. Lockwood Con eased any relegation fears with a great 5-2 away win at Milnsbridge 'A' but only being 9 points ahead of the drop zone can hardly consider themselves safe yet.
Only four matches in Division 2 this week and they all resulted in away victories including the leaders Marsh United 'A' winning 6-1 at bottom-of-the-table Skel Windmill 'B'. That enabled the Eldon Road crew to extend their lead to 9 points over a Slaithwaite team without a match this week. There were also 5-2 wins for Paddock I&C (at Meltham) and Skel Windmill 'A' at Lindley Lib 'B'. The only mild surprise outcome was Holmfirth 'A' winning 4-3 at Clayton West and closing the gap between the teams to 8 points but still leaving Clayton West behind in the promotion race.
Almondbury Lib clawed a little ground back on the Division 3 leaders, Golcar Lib, after winning 6-1 at Marsh United 'B' as the leaders sneaked to a 4-3 away win at Holmfirth 'B'. Hemplow and Marsh Lib both had big wins to remain firmly involved in the promotion fight. Hemplow thrashing Thongsbridge 'A' 7-0 at home and Marsh Lib beat bottom of the table Brockholes 'B' 6-1.
