The role of HuddWeb this season

Portal News

The HuddWeb website is coming up to six months old and during that time it has changed its focus a couple of times as circumstances have changed. Looking ahead and I see the future of the website as being to support crown green bowling in the Huddersfield area as we come to terms with our sport after the pandemic. We need to share all the activities that there are in the area to help promote bowling and show people that there is still considerable interest in the sport, that it is alive and kicking and a source of friendship, assistance, competition, humour and teamwork.

In the main, I see its purpose now being to keep bowlers informed about all bowling-related matters which will primarily be Huddersfield related but on occasions will expand to look at County and National matters.

To do that I hope to produce weekly 'Matchday Previews' and 'Results Round-Ups' for six of our local leagues, they being:

  • Ladies Works League

  • Huddersfield Saturday league

  • Huddersfield Veterans 10-Man League

  • Huddersfield Veterans 6-Man League

  • Mirfield League

  • Huddersfield Winter League

As well as articles on local leagues there is always room for news and articles about local clubs. I continue to search bowling club websites and social media platforms to find items of interest to share with you but will be looking for clubs to continue to send me content for inclusion as well.

The lack of bowling content in The Huddersfield Examiner has left a vacuum which I would like to help fill and help to resurrect interest in our sport after the very difficult year we have all endured. I do believe that bowlers have a real interest in how other teams, clubs and leagues are doing and HuddWeb brings a lot of that information into one place. Of course, many bowlers play for teams in various leagues and the opportunity to keep up to date with them all in one place is part of the service.

Everything bowling-related is of interest especially photographs from your club. Team photos are always very welcome whether they be of current teams or teams of a bygone age. Even if you can't do that at present there is one thing that you can all do to help - tell all your friends, relatives and teammates about HuddWeb and encourage them to try it out (see below).

All this is an entirely independent service provided at no cost to any bowling club or league. We don't rely on any advertising to help fund the website but if anyone is considering a sponsorship arrangement then I would be interested to hear from them.

The HuddWeb website is for and about bowling in Huddersfield and if that is of interest to you then we need to stick together in pushing our sport forward and tackling the apathy and inertia that many will tell you abounds. That approach is of no value to promoting bowling and we need to look towards new ways of doing things to encourage people to take up our sport and further the interest and commitment that our forefathers had that brought us this far. HuddWeb will continue to promote crown green bowling and we hope that you will as well.

Below is a one-page notice all about HuddWeb. Can I ask you to print a copy off and pin it to your club notice board and help promote HuddWeb and bowling in your club. Thank you.
