The Final Day Countdown

League News

Veteran's 10-Man League News

One final round of league fixtures in the 2021 Veterans League season and we will know all the title winners, promoted teams and those to be relegated. Plenty still to be sorted with only one of the five Section winners already confirmed and some big promotion and relegation issues still to be resolved.

This is our rundown of all the contenders for titles, promotion or relegation to see who needs what, to reach, or avoid, that outcome. Division-by-Division we look at what is mathematically still possible in the final round of matches. It is the Final Countdown!

Section 1 Title: Lockwood Con 'A' need 7 points from their final match, which is at home to third-placed Golcar Lib, to guarantee the title for a 7th consecutive season.

Relegation: Thongsbridge 'A' are relegated. Crosland Moor need 7 points from their match at home to Clayton West to be sure of sending Netherton Con down to Section 2 for next season.

Section 2

Title: Kirkheaton Con 'A' have won the Section 2 title

Promotion: The second promotion place will be taken by either Lindley BC 'A' or New Mill 'A'. Five points for Lindley BC 'A' from their final match at home to Lockwood Con 'B' will secure their promotion.

Relegation: Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' and Paddock I&C are both relegated.

Section 3

Title: Slaithwaite need to match or better the points total of Lowerhouses in their final matches to claim the title.

Promotion: Slaithwaite are promoted. Lowerhouses need 1 point from their away game at Marsh United 'B' to guarantee their promotion.

Relegation: It is 2 from 3 at the foot of the table and that doesn't look good for Brockholes 'B' who are currently bottom and their final match is away at 3rd-placed Golcar Lib 'B'. Meltham 'B' will probably be safe if they match or better the Outlane result.

Section 4 Title: Just 2 points separate Huddersfield Recreation and Denby Dale and one of them will take the title. The Recreation Club are currently on top and their last match is away at already relegated Kirkheaton Con 'B' whereas Denby Dale are at home to Almondbury BC 'B'.

Promotion: The Recreation Club and Denby Dale are already promoted to Section 3.

Relegation: Kirkheaton Con 'B' and Netherton Con 'B' are both relegated.

Section 5

Title: The top two teams meet to decide the destination of the Section 5 title with New Mill 'B' holding a 4 point lead but having to travel to play second-placed Huddersfield Rugby Club to determine the final outcome.

Promotion: New Mill 'B' need 3 points from the match to secure promotion whilst the Rugby Club will be promoted if they score a minimum of 7 points. If either of the top two fail in meeting these targets then it leaves the way open for Marsh Lib to beat them to promotion if they have a big win at lowly Kirkheaton C&BC 'B'.

Wooden Spoon: Three teams are still in the frame for the Wooden Spoon with Hemplow 'B' needing 2 points from their home match with Dalton to be totally safe whilst Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' need 6 points from their final home match to be sure of winning that 'honour'.
