Veterans League
Yesterday's Veterans League Team KO Quarter-Finals saw Section 1 and Section 2 represented by 4 teams each. That even ratio continues into the Semi-Finals as both Sections now have two teams one step away from the Final. It is worth remembering that the last holding of this competition final in 2019 saw a Section 1 v Section 2 confrontation as New Mill 'A' faced Lockwood Con 'A' and that pattern could possibly continue.
The two representatives from Section 2 are Broad Oak 'A' and Kirkheaton Con 'A' with the Broad Oak achievement in knocking out Section 1 side Cowcliffe worthy of special mention. The aggregate score is the method to separate teams in this competition but whichever way you look at it, Broad Oak won. A 120-118 aggregate difference and a 4-3 game score all add up to the same outcome. In the Semi-Final Broad Oak will now meet the current Team KO holders and Section 1 leaders Lockwood Con 'A' on 2 September on a neutral green still to be allocated. Lockwood Con 'A' had to overcome the team just behind them in the Section 1 title race so it was always going to be difficult but a 133-119 scoreline was sufficient to ease them past Golcar Lib 'A'.
In the other half of the draw Section 2 runaway leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' beat fellow Section 2 side Almondbury BC 'A' by 149-108 on aggregate and 6-1 on game score. Longwood now await them in the Semi-Final after they put out Milnsbridge 'A' 134-115.
The Team KO competition is for the teams that finished the previous season in the top 32 positions so including all Section 1 and 2 teams and the top four from Section 3. The remaining teams are in the Sub-Team KO and that competition has also reached the Semi-Final stage with teams from Sections 3, 4 and 5 still in contention as Lowerhouses meet Springwood and Huddersfield Recreation Club play Greenhead Park on 19 August.
