League News Veterans 10-Man League Team KO Final preview
This Thursday sees the second of the 2021 finals in the Veterans' 10-Man League team competitions. Old rivals Lockwood Con and Longwood go head to head at Lindley BC in the Team KO starting at 1.30pm.
Lockwood Con 'A' are the defending Champions having won the trophy when it was last competed for in 2019 and they are serial winners of this title having claimed the trophy 4 times in the last 7 years that it has been played. In contrast Longwood have never won this, or any other, 10-Man League or KO competition and would love to claim their first against their old rivals. That rivalry going back to the involvement of both clubs in the 6-Man League which they dominated between them from 2013 to 2017. It will be good to see that level of competition resurrected in the 10-Man League.
Both teams beat Section 2 teams in the semi-finals but it is Longwood who are the team in form having won 8 of their last 9 Section 1 matches which has taken them to third place in the latest league table and a rising threat to Lockwood Con's dominance of this competition as they strive to make it seven consecutive league titles.
There are no minnows in the Team KO as it is restricted to the teams that finished the previous season in the top 32 positions so usually you get all the teams from Sections 1 and 2 and then the top four teams from Section 3 so ensuring that there are no easy passages to the Final. The format is the same as league matches - 4 Singles and 3 Pairs - but the result is based on the aggregate score with games won only coming into play in the event of a drawn aggregate score.
