Springwood bounce to top of table

Veterans League

Review of the 10-Man League fixtures for Divisions 3, 4 and 5 played on Tuesday 18 April

Springwood were a casualty of the League reorganisation when they lost their Division 3 status despite finishing the season outside of the relegation places at the end of last season. So starting the season in Division 4 and with a point to prove as they top the early table and collecting a 9-0 home win this week against Thongsbridge 'B'. That result puts them 3-points clear of second-placed Almondbury BC 'B' who have won both of their opening fixtures with the latest being a 7-2 away win over Ravensknowle Park.

Kirkheaton Con 'B', Lindley Lib 'B' and Primrose Hill Lib all recorded home wins to get their first wins on the table respectively against the RUBC (5-4), Marsh United 'B' (7-2) and Lindley BC 'B' (5-4).

It is very tight at the top of Division 3 with just 2-points separating the top four teams with Golcar Lib 'B' leading the way after a 7-2 home win over Skel Windmill.

Almondbury Lib and Denby Dale are locked together one-point behind the leader after both clocked up impressive 7-2 away wins this week.

The fourth member of that leading quartet is Brockholes 'A' and they also had a good away win this time by 6-3 at Outlane. All the top four remain unbeaten and things will get interesting next week when the top two - Golcar Lib 'B' and Almondbury Lib - go up against each other possibly resulting in an even more congested table. Slaithwaite complete the review by beating Lockwood Con 'B' 7-2 to clock up their first win and Lockwood's first defeat of the season.

Greenhead Park came down to earth after last week's Division 5 whitewash win over New Mill 'B' when they lost 1-8 at David Brown Sports and drop 4 places to 5th as a result which is one place below their vanquishers. Three unbeaten teams lead the table with Milnsbridge 'B' taking prime place after inflicting a second successive 0-9 defeat on New Mill 'B' and going clear at the top of the table. That scoreline isn't as conclusive as you might expect at first glance with only one of the seven games resulting in a single-figure defeat so hope for the future.

One point behind the leaders are Broad Oak 'B' and Brockholes 'B' who both had comfortable 7-2 home wins. Broad Oak beating the much-fancied Dalton side and Brockholes seeing off Holmfirth 'B'. The rearranged Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' fixture at Netherton Con 'B' took place yesterday and saw the home side run out 8-1 winners which propels them into the top half of the table which is not reflected in the table alongside this report.
