Veterans 10-Man League
The 10-Man League Match-of-the Day was in Section 3 which saw the top two teams pitched against each other and a decisive 7-2 home win for Slaithwaite enabled them to overtake Lowerhouses at the top of the table. That means that Lowerhouses have lost their last 3 away games and is obviously the area that needs addressing if they are to reignite their title challenge. Golcar Lib 'B' and Holmfirth 'B' took full advantage to close in on the promotion places as both clocked up 8-1 home wins and now there are just 6 points between the top four teams and everything still to play for. Marsh United 'B' did themselves a huge favour by beating bottom team Brockholes 'B' 7-2 away from home to edge closer to safety and leaving Meltham 'B' and Outlane to contest the other relegation place between them for now.
Things went pretty much to form in Section 1 with Golcar Lib 'A' the only team in the top 7 to lose this week, whereas Crosland Moor were the only team in the bottom half to win. So that means minimal changes in league position although Elland C&BC 'A' moved a couple of points nearer to the leaders, Lockwood Con 'A' after a whitewash 9-0 home win over Thongsbridge 'A'. The leaders may have been a little disappointed to drop a couple of points at Meltham as an 18 and a 20 could have easily have gone the other way but for now, they continue to lead the way.
Kirkheaton Con 'A' returned to winning ways after last weeks loss at Lindley BC 'A' with an emphatic 8-1 Section 2 away win at Thorpe Green who were losing for the first time in ten games this season on their own lawn. Lindley BC 'A' continued their winning ways with an 8-1 home win over bottom team Paddock I&C to go 7 points clear in second place helped by Broad Oak surprisingly going down 2-7 on their own green to Hemplow 'A'. New Mill 'A' moved into third place after a 9th successive win, this time 5-4 away at Milnsbridge thanks to a 130-128 aggregate clinching the points. Lockwood Con 'B' were the only team in the bottom four to register a win and when it is over another bottom four team it ranks even higher which was the case here with Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' losing out and looking stranded along with Paddock I&C.
Huddersfield Recreation Club emphasised the gap there is between the top two teams in Section 4 and the rest by despatching third-placed Milnsbridge 'B' back home after beating them 8-1 and extending their lead over Denby Dale to 6 points having played a game more. The Dale had a thorough examination at Thongsbridge 'B' where there was a 122-122 aggregate tie to enable the Dale to steal the points 5-4.
Marsh Lib had a massive 8-1 home win over Section 5 leaders the Rugby Club which enabled New Mill 'B' to take over at the top after logging another 8-1 scoreline over 4th-placed Dalton. The Rugby Club saw their 5-match winning run halted and things look very tight now with just 6 points between the top 3 teams competing for 2 promotion places.
