Slaithwaite can claim Section C title this week

Veterans 6-Man League News

Veteran's 6-Man League Weekly Preview

Slaithwaite can claim the Section C title this week if they collect 6 points from their away match at 2nd placed Almondbury Lib. That is a difficult task which may be helped by 3rd placed Holmfirth 'A' failing to get maximum points from their trip to Marsh Lib this week. If not this week then surely next for the Julie Fuller Trophy winners. Holmfirth 'A' will be going all out for a big finish to collect the second promotion place but that cannot be decided this week.

Things are a little more complicated in the other two sections with no title decisions possible this week. In Section A all the teams have 3 matches to play with 6 points between the top three teams who don't have to meet each other again this season. Shepley continue to lead the way and have an away match at Crosland Moor this Monday. Their two main rivals for the title both have home fixtures this week, Thongsbridge 'B' versus Longwood and Netherton Con take on Lindley Lib, both teams will be looking for big wins to maintain their challenges. The relegation issue also remains in the balance although the bottom two teams remain favourites for the drop as Paddock I&C and Oakfield T&BC have both lost their last four matches. It is possible for Lindley Lib to be sucked into the relegation mix as they have to go to Netherton Con's this week and a heavy defeat could be disastrous for them.

In Section B the promotion matter could be resolved this week as Honley Con and Golcar C&BC remain locked together at the top of the table some 8 points clear and look odds on to be playing in Section A next season. Marsh United could gatecrash that arrangement if they can beat Honley Con this week but this is likely to be the last big test for the two top teams before promotion gets confirmed. That just leaves the matter of the title and as the top two have regularly swapped places all season it is likely to go to the final week of the campaign. If Clayton West get one point from their visitors Primrose Hill Lib then that will condemn the Pip Hill outfit to Section C bowling next year and improve Clayton West's chances of avoiding the second relegation place seemingly destined to be filled by Golcar Lib. That will be confirmed if Clayton West take all 7 points from their Monday match.
