6-Man League Weekly Preview

Shepley have led the Section A table almost all season but 2 defeats in their last 3 matches has suddenly given hope to the chasing bunch. From that group of 4 teams the one to emerge with the strongest response has been reigning Champions Netherton Con who have won their last 6 matches to move just a point behind the leaders. The top two both have away games on Monday, Shepley at relegation-threatened Oakfield and Netherton having a more difficult-looking encounter at Milnsbridge. Those away games give an opening to the next two teams, Thongsbridge 'B' and Brockholes 'A', who are separated by 2 points and meet each other this week. At the foot of the table it looks like any 2 from 4 although Crosland Moor could see themselves dragged into that scenario if they don't see off strugglers Lindley Lib this week. Bottom team, Longwood, have home advantage over fellow-strugglers Paddock I&C as the 5-point gap between those bottom 4 teams will get a thorough examination on Monday.

Last week Golcar C&BC completed a league double over leaders Honley Con and will look to kick-on from there to build a real challenge for the Section B title but have to travel to play third-placed Skel Windmill 'B' this week who themselves harbour thoughts of promotion. Honley Con will be looking to bounce back from last week's setback but will have to face up to Clayton West's 100% home record to consolidate their position. Primrose Hill Lib have lost all 9 of their matches to date but this Monday's visit from second from bottom Golcar Lib offers them their best opportunity to stop that run but it may already be too late to preserve their Section B status as they are 17 points off safety.

Slaithwaite will be looking to bounce back from last week's first Section C defeat of the season at Marsh Lib whilst their conquerors, Holmfirth 'A', can improve their promotion chances and extend their current winning run of 7 with a home game against third-placed Almondbury Lib who were the last team to beat them back in mid-May. This week the bottom four teams meet each other to retain some interest in bragging rights.
