The closest Section 1 title race for many years is developing with just 7 points between the top six teams and five changes of leader in the past five weeks keeping everyone on their toes. Any matches between those top six teams carry double interest and this week we have two such confrontations involving the top four teams.
This week's leaders are Lockwood Con and they have to visit third-placed Golcar Lib 'A' whilst second-placed Cowcliffe have home advantage over fourth-placed Longwood. Four points separate the top four but you won't get good odds for it being much wider after Tuesday. The best-situated teams may be the two currently sitting 5th and 6th, Elland C&BC 'A' and Clayton West who both have home games against bottom-half teams. Then on Friday Elland C&BC 'A' play their game in hand when going to Marsh United 'A' so could be back on top of the table for the weekend. Alternatively Marsh United may have forced their way into the top bunch of teams as they have already beaten 3 of the top 6 and have a home game on Tuesday against Lindley Lib who have lost their last three fixtures then play Elland on Friday.
Thorpe Green have stuttered a little recently after an 8-match winning start to their Section 2 season they have lost both their last two matches to drop to fourth place and 11 points behind the leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A'. They will be looking to get their challenge back on track this week with a home fixture against New Mill 'A'. The leaders have a home game against Brockholes 'A' this week whilst 3rd placed Broad Oak take on visitors from Bradley & Colne. There are just two points between the bottom four teams and the bottom two face each other this week when foot-of-the-table Hemplow host Paddock in a real double-pointer.
Holmfirth 'A's lead at the top of Section 3 has been chipped away at recently as Lowerhouses have mounted a serious challenge and are now 3 points behind the leaders. Slaithwaite as well are taking closer order on the back of a four-match winning run and all three teams have very winnable fixtures this week so it may come down to the margin of victory in determining who will be looking down on who after this round of matches. It is difficult to see any of the bottom five teams winning this week's matches so again it may come down collecting a few points here and there to make a difference as things remain very tight at the foot.
In Section 4 Denby Dale have the League's only unbeaten record and it is not feasible that it will be seriously threatened this week away at bottom team Almondbury BC 'B'. Their two nearest challengers are 14 points adrift already and they both have away games this week where they will do well to beat the Dale's result and gain ground on them. Thongsbridge 'B' and Elland C&BC 'B' are at Milnsbridge 'B' and Lindley BC 'B' respectively.
The top four teams in Section 5 face each other with leaders the Rugby Club at third-placed New Mill 'B' whilst second-placed Marsh Lib are at home to fourth-placed Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' so things could change quite dramatically after those matches. At the foot of the Section David Brown Sports have a chance to narrow the gap between themselves and the two teams above them who meet each other this week. That will see Dalton and Hemplow 'B' in competition while David Brown Sports host Broad Oak 'B' who have lost all four of their away fixtures this season so far.
