Rose Bowl Pairs Final 1999

August 1999: Olive Parr Rose Bowl

Success in the 1999 Ladies Rose Bowl Final looked a long way off for Anne Rose and Kath Dyson (Almondbury Con) when they trailed 14-20 to 1996 winners Linda Gledhill and Judith Singleton (Linthwaite Hall). But they won a measure at the next end and eventually ran out 21-20 winners at New Mill.

Winning had never taken so long in the competition before. The final day's play started on the last Sunday in June but it had to be abandoned because of torrential rain. The winners then returned to New Mill to play their quarter-final before a third visit to play in the final.

Committee member Flo Bleazard holds the Rose Bowl to show the quarter-final pairings. From the left: Mary Tipple (back) and Jacqui Roper (front), Barbara Robinson and Joan Green, Judith Singleton and Linda Gledhill, Anne Rose and Kath Dyson.

Road to the Final: First Round: A.Rose & K.Dyson (Almondbury Con) 21-14 J.Winterbottom (Meltham) & J.Ellis (Marsh United)

L.Gledhill & J.Singleton (Linthwaite Hall) 21-11 S.Heap & Townend (Paddock C&BC)

Quarter-Finals: A.Rose & K.Dyson 21-13 J.Earnshaw & J.Calvert (Kirkheaton Con)

L.Gledhill & J.Singleton 21-14 D.Hill & M.Beaumont (Outlane)

Semi-Finals: A.Rose & K.Dyson 21-15 J.Roper & M.Tipple (Marsh United)

L.Gledhill & J.Singleton 21-13 B.Robinson & J.Green (Outlane)

FINAL; A.Rose & K.Dyson 21-20 L.Gledhill & J.Singleton

Ladies Week continues tomorrow with another memory when we go back just 6 years to 2015 when a Huddersfield bowler won the BCGBA Ladies Individual Merit Championship.
