We remain in limbo as regards the reopening of bowling greens and clubhouses still awaiting the guidance and conditions that will be imposed before any bowling can begin in 2021.
There is increasing speculation in the press that the guidance may not become available from the Government until as late as Sunday 28 March which is the day prior to the provisional restart date for outdoor sports. If it is as late as that then we will be well into April before any bowling - social or competitive - can resume.
Once available that guidance has to be tailored by each of the outdoor sports governing bodies (BCGBA in our case) to suit each sport and then controls put in place to ensure compliance.
The delay is a result of the Government need to be assured that the reopening of schools and colleges on 8 March has not impacted on the required reduction in infection rates, hospital admissions, and deaths. This needs to happen along with the continuing roll-out of the vaccination programme which is a condition of the 29 March incentive date for the next stage of the Road Map return to normality programme.
