Review of the results of matches played in Divisions 1 & 2 of the Veterans 10-Man League on Tuesday 19 September
Tuesday's downpour caused the postponement of two key Division 1 and Division 2 fixtures to delay the Division 1 dropzone outcome and the Division 2 promotion chase.
The postponement of the Golcar Lib 'A' v Cowcliffe fixture has left the Division 1 relegation battle in limbo. As a result Cowcliffe remain in the third relegation place which is to be enforced in the event of the promised rebalancing exercise being undertaken. The postponed match will now take place on Friday at the same time as the Rose Bowl Finals Day in which the League's top bowler, Ray Whitwam of Golcar Lib, is involved. He can't play in both at the same time.
The bottom two teams will be relegated with Milnsbridge already guaranteed one of those places. Longwood won their key match on Tuesday away at Elland C&BC by 6-3 which leaves them needing 4 points from their last match at home to Lowerhouses next week to pass and probably send down Meltham who have already completed their fixture programme.
It is still possible for Elland C&BC to end up in that third from bottom place and a possible relegation. Their last match is away at Cowcliffe which could still be a cliff-hanger for both teams.
In Division 2 Netherton Con 'A' were denied the opportunity to clinch the title when the rain caused their postponement of the home match against fourth-placed Lindley BC 'A'. That match has been rearranged for Friday 29 September which is after all the other matches will have already been completed. This all means that four teams still stay in the chase for the two promotion places. Shepley's 3-6 home defeat by Thongsbridge 'A' has opened the door for Lindley BC 'A' to snatch that second promotion spot.
At the foot of the table Linthwaite Hall's 7-2 home win over Bradley & Colne guaranteed their continuing involvement in Division 2 next season as none of the bottom four teams can now pass them. Those bottom three are still scrambling to sort out the bottom two places which will go down as will the next two should the League go ahead with their rebalancing exercise. Thorpe Green cannot now drop into the bottom two but will be in the bottom four which could still mean the same outcome - relegation! Hemplow 'A' and Holmfirth 'A' both suffered 1-8 away defeats this week which seriously hampered their chances of escaping the dreaded drop.
