Promotion for Almondbury Lib is within their grasp

Writer: Veterans LeagueVeterans League

Veterans League Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 and 5 fixtures for 19 September

Almondbury Lib need to win Tuesday's home match with Brockholes 'A' by 9-0 to delay the formality of Golcar Lib 'B' being crowned Division 3 Champions. If they should achieve that result then the already promoted Golcar Lib 'B' side will need just a point from their final match a week later to add the title to their season's achievements. Almondbury Lib can more realistically aim for the 6-points from that final fixture which will give them promotion.

Denby Dale need a big win at home to struggling Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' to give themselves a promotion chance in their final fixture. However it is their visitors final fixture as well and they will be going all out for some much-needed points to add to their total which needs supplementing as three of the teams below them have two matches to close the gap.

Meltham 'B' are already relegated but any of the 5 teams above them could be joining them as a bottom two casualty ignoring the rebalancing factor which could add a further two relegations.

Springwood need 4 points from their final Division 4 match to seal their promotion back to Division 3 which they lost last season. They have to go to Marsh United to get those points but that is no certainty and with Marsh Lib poised to overtake them with a final match at home to relegation-threatened Primrose Hill Lib things are very much in the balance. Should the third relegation place come-about then Almondbury BC 'B' who currently occupy that position know that they need to win their final match at home to Champions Lindley Lib 'B' and the 5-points that goes with a win will see them pass Ravensknowle Park who have already completed their season. Similarly, the Rugby Club need one point from their final match away at Lindley BC 'B' to secure their Division 4 status.

The only outstanding matter to be resolved in Division 5 is which team will be joining Champions Milnsbridge 'B' in Division 4 next season. With only one round of fixtures to complete the season, three teams remain in the frame for that promotion. Brockholes 'B' hold a 1-point advantage over Broad Oak 'B' who in turn have a 5-points lead over David Brown Sports. Of those three contenders the Broad Oak team have the hardest finish to the season away at Champions Milnsbridge 'B'. David Brown Sports have the easiest looking final fixture with a trip to play bottom of the table Holmfirth 'B' but whether that will give them a 6-points turnaround on Brockholes 'B' who are at home to Netherton Con 'B' remains to be seen.
