Review of the matches played in Divisions 3 & 4 on Monday 22 January 2024
Division 3 teams please note:
The last day of the season fixtures scheduled for Monday 4 March have now been moved forward to Friday 23 February. This is at the request of the host club to enable an early start to be made on the pre-summer season work programme. Bowlsnet has been updated to reflect these changes.
2024 is already proving to be a better year for Primrose Hill Lib after they clocked up their 2nd Division 3 win of the year and also of the season when overcoming Lindley Lib B by 6-2 last Monday. That was enough to lift them off the foot of the table for the first time this season and leave Paddock I&C stranded although both teams still occupy the relegation places. Paddock I&C were whitewashed 0-8 by Marsh United to end a stuttering 3-match run for the victors which has cost them the lead in the title race.
Hanging Heaton also recorded an 8-0 win when seeing off Rastrick and that maintains the 8-points gap between the top two teams with both having 5 matches still to play, one of those 5 being against each other.
In the remaining Monday fixture, Dalton beat Thorpe Green B 6-2 which really didn't do a lot for either teams' hopes of moving up the table.
Before the start of this week's Division 4 fixture programme we reported on the fact that there was 10-points between the top four teams. That all changed with the stretch now being 14-points between the same four teams who met each other on Monday. The key result being the leaders, New Mill B, 6-2 win over Netherton Con A.
Then with the teams in 2nd and 3rd places facing each other and level on points it was a little surprising to see Lindley Lib C capitulate 0-8 to Thorpe Green C who won all three games by the same 9-21 scoreline. Thorpe Green now become the greatest threat to the leaders. The top two have both won 3 of their last 4 fixtures, are the form teams in that division and could extend their lead next week with the fixtures coming up.
Kirkheaton C&BC and Lowerhouses B played out a 4-4 draw with the Kirkheaton team taking aggregate by 59-47. Almondbury BC A beat bottom-of-the-table Springwood B 8-0 but despite that stay in the relgation zone but now have the next three teams above them within their striking range to set up an interesting run in to the end of the season at both ends of the table.
