Division 9 final fling this week

Winter League

Preview of the Division 9 two days of fixtures this coming week

Two games in two days for the Division 9 teams to conclude their season take place at Paddock I&C on Monday and Tuesday. Greenhead Park and Kirkheaton C&BC C are the two favourites to fill the promotion places but which one of them will take the Champions title as well? Well that could all be sorted in the first round of those fixtures when the top two go head-to-head on Monday.

Both teams have excellent season-long records only losing 3 matches all season between them. Greenhead Park have been long-time leaders in the table but the Kirkheaton team have won their last three matches 8-0 to come through on the blindside and sneak ahead of their rivals. That difference is just two points so the fight is likely to go on to the last day of the Division 9 season on Tuesday but there is no doubt that the winner of the Monday clash will be favourites to go on and add the title to their season.

At the wrong end of the table there is a clash of two teams fighting to avoid the 2nd relegation place and drop a level with Brockholes C who can avoid that drop mathematically at present but the reality is that it is almost inevitable that they are going down. The two teams in the battle to stay up are Mirfield C and Almondbury BC C. Three points for the Mirfield team from that match will secure their future presence at this level for another season. Whereas the Almondbury team need 8-0 wins from their two final fixtures and even that wouldn't guarantee their survival. Regardless of all that it has been a good first season for 7 of the 8 teams in the new Division 9 with a good atmosphere around the green and good support for the catering team in their first season of Winter bowling.
