6-Man Preview focus on Section C

6-Man League Weekly Preview

We will start this preview in Section C where the top two teams meet as do the bottom two. Leaders Slaithwaite are away to Holmfirth 'A' with a 16-point gap between the teams and the leader's unblemished record on the line but probably not under threat. Slaithwaite have won all 8 league games this season, the last four being 7-0 victories. An opening day of the season win for Slaithwaite in the reverse fixture started that impressive sequence of results and they look set to complete a whole season of unbeaten matches. They are well above the standard of other teams in this Division and if the Julie Fuller Trophy results are any guide then they are well above most other teams in the two other divisions as well. Shepley 'B' and Brockholes 'B' are the bottom two teams and they meet up this Monday with pride at stake if nothing more.

Section B leaders Golcar C&BC have a week off so allowing 2nd and 3rd to confront each other and Honley Con are most likely to take advantage of that. Currently just a point behind the leaders against third-placed Skel Windmill 'A', a win is imperative if they still harbour thoughts of winning the Division this year. After this fixture Honley Con will have 7 matches left to play - 5 of those being away from home, one of those against the leaders, so any intent of winning honours must start with a big win this week to act as a buffer to ride out the difficult fixtures still to come. Take the top two teams out of the equation and the remaining 7 teams are all nearer a relegation place than a promotion spot. Primrose Hill Lib have lost all 8 league games to date and seem doomed but who will go down with them? Nine points separate the next 7 teams so any team feeling complacent and careless will soon be suffering the bitter aftertaste of defeat and a relegation battle to be faced.

Plenty still to be decided in Section A with the top three teams all having Won-7 Lost-2 records although separated by 8 points and, with the top two both away from home this week, presenting third-placed Thongsbridge 'B' with an opportunity to impact on the running order when entertaining lowly Paddock I&C this Monday. It is equally interesting at the foot of the table with four teams vying to stay out of the two relegation places with Oakfield and Longwood failing to do that at present. Four points separate the bottom 4 teams and with any combination possible then the attention of all of them should well and truly be focused on every bowl, every match, every week until the decision is taken out of their own hands.

HuddWeb is now providing weekly postings covering the Matchday Preview and Results Round-Up for 5 local bowling leagues - the Mirfield League, Ladies Works League, Veterans 10-Man League, Veterans 6-Man League and the Huddersfield Winter League. Trying to fill the gap left by The Examiner.
