Pole position for Pudsey

League News

Not only were the Division 1 games all won by the home team this week they all won by the same 9-3 scoreline. One of the teams on the wrong end of that scoreline was previous table-toppers Thongsbridge 'A' who missed out at Lower Hopton 'A'. That enabled Pudsey 'A' to overtake them and move into pole position with a win over Littlemoor 'A' who are dropping down the table after 3 matches without a win. Two points separate the top 3 teams who are breaking away from the rest of the crowd with an 8-point gap now evident. Outside the top 3 there are 3 teams leading the chasing pack, Crossgates 'A', Dearne Sports and Crosland Moor, and all were among the 9-3 home winners this week.

Division 2 leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' made the biggest statement yet about their title aspirations when seeing off nearest challengers Woodlands Park 10-2 who retain 2nd place but are now 11 points behind the leaders. Alverthorpe 'A' move level on points with them to join the promotion push after an 8-4 away win at Spen Victoria 'A' and keep their winning run going with the only blemish being an opening day defeat at Kirkheaton. The Harold Club stay bottom after a 5-7 home defeat by Crossgates 'B' whilst the next two relegation-threatened teams both won, Whitkirk 10-2 over Pudsey 'B' and Brighouse Sports 8-4 at Eccelshill which drags the home team into the battle at the bottom. A catch-up fixture this Friday between Whitkirk and Eccleshill will add to that mix.

Two big whitewash home wins this week in Division 3 including the leaders Littlemoor 'B' as they saw off Ossett C&AC in emphatic style. In an 'anything you can do ....' manner second in the table Dodworth matched that scoreline when overwhelming bottom side Horbury by the same 12-0 scoreline. The top three Aggregate For totals this week all came from Division 3 teams with the third one being Shipley who also had a big home win by 10-2 over Rothwell. Cleckheaton Sports 'A' completed the quartet of home wins by beating Milnsbridge 'A' by a more reserved 9-3 scoreline.

Much much tighter in Division 4 with 3 points between the top 4 teams and it turned out to be a good day for third-placed Lowerhouses with the two teams above them both losing. Leaders Thornhill got a harsh message at Farsley where the home side ran out 10-2 winners and then Broad Oak 'A' lost at home to lowly Spen Victoria 'B' by 4-8 and so swapped places with Lowerhouses who, have a game in hand of the other top teams, beat Kirkheaton Con 'B' 9-3. Spen Victoria 'B' were the only team in the bottom 4 to win this week and those 8 points took them out of the relegation places.

Down among the 8-man teams and Division 5 leaders Morton House made it 6 out of 6 when comprehensively beating mid-table The Harold Club 'B' by 9-1 which enabled them to extend their lead to 9 points as the 2nd and 3rd placed teams played each other with Alverthorpe 'B' ending the unbeaten record of Heckmondwike after a 6-4 win. Lockwood Con and Almondbury Lib beat fellow strugglers Cowcliffe and Marsh United respectively.

It was a good day for new Division 6 leaders Netherton Con for as well as winning 7-3 at home to Almondbury Lib their two closest rivals both lost. Grange Moor 4-6 at Rastrick and previous leaders Golcar Lib drop to third after losing 2-8 away at Bradley & Colne. Both teams remain in contention locked together on 35 points and 5 behind the leader. Milnsbridge 'B' picked up their 2nd point of the season when going down 1-9 to Thorpe Green 'A' but are now 14 points behind their nearest neighbour and 24 points off safety.

A great 9-1 away win at Dalton enabled Shepley to take over at the top of Division 7 from Royds Park who were shocked to lose at home to Cleckheaton Sports 'C' by 3-7. Springwood 'A' only just retained their unbeaten record when needing the aggregate to draw 5-5 away to bottom team Thorpe Green 'B'
