New season opening day fixtures

Winter League

The new Winter League season will be up and running tomorrow with the opening round of Division 4 fixtures to be played at Primrose Hill Lib. Four of the teams played in this Division last season. Two came down from Division 3 and two were promoted from Division 5.

Brockholes A and Huddersfield Recreation Club A are the two teams dropping down from Division 3 and Brockholes A will fancy their chances of a swift return to the higher level with good reason. Lindley Lib C were the runaway winners of the Division 5 title last season ending 22 points ahead of Elland WMC and if they carry that form forward will be a strong challenger for the Division 4 title this season.

Lindley Lib C have a strong case for a 2nd successive promotion but they did play all last season on their own green which had to be a factor in their success but how much of that is down to home advantage? Netherton Con A finished third last season missing out on promotion by one point. I am going for them in my tip for the top.

Not sure where to start when trying to identify the main contenders for relegation. The two teams coming down from Division 3 have to be of interest but my vote is going for my friends from Milnsbridge B to take the dive after flirting with relegation last season, their time may be up. This is how the table looked at the end of the 2024-25 season.
