New Division 1 leaders Lower Hopton under pressure

League News

Mirfield League

There are some cracking top-level fixtures lined up this week across most of the divisions but none more so than at the top of Division 1 where the top four go head-to-head. This week's leaders are Lower Hopton 'A', the third different leader in the last three weeks, and they have to go to play third-placed Pudsey with the 5-point gap between the teams in danger of being swallowed up. Tucked in between these two is Thongsbridge 'A' who have to venture out to 4th-placed Crossgates 'A' who are desperate to rejoin the title fight and this is the best opportunity they are likely to get to do that.

Another top-four-only clash in Section 2 where the leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' have home advantage over 4th-placed Crossgates 'B' with a 21 point gap now between the teams. The 2nd and 3rd placed teams meet at Woodlands Park where Alverthorpe 'A' are the visitors and they will be keen to at least retain the 4-point lead that they have over them. Interesting clash where the bottom two meet at Spen Victoria where the bottom team The Harold Club 'A' are the visitors and they will need to start chipping away at that point difference soon if they hold out any hope of avoiding relegation this season.

It is 1st v 3rd in Division 3 where the leaders, Dodworth, have home advantage and an 11-point lead over Ossett C&AC. Squashed between these two is Littlemoor 'B' who will be expecting to reduce the points difference with the leaders when they entertain bottom of the table Horbury.

In Division 4 the leaders, Thornhill C&BC have a bye week and will rely on their 10-point lead to protect them from the advances of Lowerhouses and Kirkheaton Con 'B' who will have to overcome away match opponents to slip by the top of the table outfit. Denby Grange 'B' sit at the foot of the table but then there is a group of four teams within one-point of each other and this Tuesday they meet up which is going to bring some clarity to the escape plot.

After seeing off the leadership challenge of Heckmondwike last week, Morton House put their Division 5 unbeaten record on the line again this week when 3rd-placed Cleckheaton Sports 'B' are the visitors. Heckmondwike will look to immediately bounce back from last week's defeat by the leaders and will be looking to do that at 2nd from bottom Cowcliffe. More interest at the foot of the table focuses on bottom team Marsh United's home match with 3rd from bottom Longwood. There are currently 9 points between them which can all be passed in a single game.

Division 6 leaders Golcar Lib have the day off and may be overtaken by two opponents this week. Thorpe Green and Netherton Con are both 4 points behind the leaders with 2nd placed Thorpe Green at 5th placed Thongsbridge 'B' and Netherton Con at home to 4th placed Grange Moor. The bottom 4 meet each other with bottom team Milnsbridge still looking for a first win and 23 points off safety as they go to Bradley & Colne.

Unbeaten Springwood 'A' continue to trail leaders Shepley at the top of Division 7 and have a home match with mid-table Broad Oak 'B' this Tuesday as the leaders go to third-placed Royds Park. Springwood 'B' and Thorpe Green 'B' both have byes this week giving fellow strugglers Dalton the chance to move above them when they entertain mid-table Cleckheaton Sports 'C'.
